Piscataway Police Achieve Incredible Distinction

Only 12% of NJ Police Departments Gain State Police Chiefs Accreditation Three Times

May 3, 2024 – Piscataway Mayor Brian C. Wahler and Deputy Chief Michelle Pilch are thrilled to announce that for the third time the Piscataway Township Police Department (PTPD) has been accredited by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP).

According to NJSACOP Accreditation Program Director Harry J. Delgado who presented the accreditation certificate to Deputy Chief Pilch at last night’s Piscataway Township Council meeting, 54 percent of eligible New Jersey police departments have been accredited once, only 32 percent gain accreditation for a second time and a mere 12 percent gain accreditation for a third time.

“Our thriving diverse community continues to be well protected and served by the professional excellence of Piscataway’s finest,” Mayor Brian C. Wahler said.  “The Township Council and I are proud that the police chiefs of our state continue to recognize the high quality of our Police Department.”

NJSACOP looks at many factors when determining accreditation such as department leadership, personnel development, records and financial management, arrest and investigation procedures, weapons training and call responses.

“I am proud that the extraordinary work of all of those in uniform has resulted in this remarkable accolade,” Deputy Police Chief Michelle Pilch said.  “This rare distinction of three accreditations is the result of a coordinated and substantial effort and I thank all of our officers for their dedication.”
